Purple Dot Program

A simple sign that has the power to save many lives.

The Purple dot program was created in order to help individuals who might be struggling with domestic violence in a secure setting.

The Purple Dot Program provides a discreet, accessible way for individuals to signal when they need help or do not feel safe—without having to speak openly in front of others. Each kit includes a clearly marked sign and, depending on the setting, a supply of round purple stickers.
In clinical settings, such as hospitals or rehabilitation centers, the sign is placed in private areas like restrooms. If a patient feels unsafe or is unable to discuss their situation in front of a caregiver or companion, they can quietly take a purple sticker and place it on the bottom of their semen/urine collection cup or on their paperwork. This subtle signal immediately alerts healthcare providers to follow safety protocols and offer support.
The program’s design also allows for public implementation in community facilities, schools, or businesses. In these environments, the sign can include tear-off chits with a discreet helpline number. An individual in need can take a chit without drawing attention and call for help when it is safe to do so.
This dual approach ensures the Purple Dot Program can adapt to both medical and non-medical environments, providing a simple yet powerful safety net wherever people may need it most.

What is the Purple Dot Program?

What is in the Purple Dot Kit?

The Purple Dot Sign

The Purple Dot Sign is designed for discreet placement in private areas such as healthcare facility restrooms, where patients can read the instructions in privacy and signal their healthcare provider if they do not feel safe. Once alerted, providers can speak with the patient confidentially and take the necessary steps to ensure their safety.

Each Purple Dot Kit contains:

  • Two confidential Purple Dot Signs for placement in restrooms or other private areas within a healthcare facility.

  • Public Purple Dot Posters for community spaces, schools, businesses, or other public facilities. These posters include tear-off chits or contact information so individuals can discreetly take a resource and call for help when it is safe to do so.

We take it upon ourselves to customize all Purple Dot posters to your facility, ensuring that the language, design, and contact information are tailored to your environment. This level of customization allows the program to be culturally sensitive, clear, and highly effective for your staff and community.

By combining confidential and public-facing materials—each adapted to their setting—the Purple Dot Program creates a safety net that is discreet, visible, and effective across a wide variety of environments.

The Purple Dot Stickers

The Purple Dot Stickers are placed next to the Purple Dot Sign, ready for discreet use by patients. Following the simple instructions on the sign, patients can quietly take a sticker and place it on a urine/semen collection cup, their paperwork, or discreetly hand it to a healthcare provider. This small action serves as a confidential signal that they do not feel safe, allowing providers to respond appropriately and ensure their safety.

Purple Dot Training Manual

The Purple Dot Program Training Manual equips hospital staff with the tools, language, and trauma-informed protocols needed to recognize and respond to domestic abuse. Through discreet identification methods and coordinated support services, it empowers patients to safely and silently signal for help—without fear.

Discreet Communication Tools

As part of the Purple Dot Program kit, we provide discreet forms of communication that patients can keep if they are not ready to report abuse right away. These tools allow them to reach out for help when they feel safe to do so. For privacy and safety reasons, these materials are not pictured here.

The Purple Envelope

The Purple Envelope contains a heartfelt letter, offering encouragement, empathy, and a reminder of the program’s mission. It serves as a personal connection between our team and those implementing the program, reinforcing the importance of compassion, understanding, and dedication in every interaction.
